Until It Means Everything

Vaelis locked the door, but should’ve they locked the vault?

The icon of the AI music industry goes fully experimental on their latest album, Until It Means Everything. While Vaelis pushes boundaries, some tracks lean into an extravagance that borders on unappealing. Fortunately, standout cuts like the lead single “Did I Lock The Door?” and “Don’t Follow” embrace a more accessible, commercial sound, offering a much stronger showcase of their true artistry. Surprisingly, despite never previously releasing interludes, Vaelis includes two here, with “Same Place” turning out to be one of the absolute highlights of the project. Aside from these high points, however, the rest of the tracklist struggles to leave an impression, often pushing experimentation so far that the music loses its melodic appeal. Nevertheless, it is remarkably brave for such an influential artist to experiment so boldly, taking creative risks in a way that few others could pull off.
